Ten Good Reasons For Moving To Spain

I thought it was a good time to put together a little video telling you a good quick ten reasons why you should come to live in Spain. Everyone has their own reasons for moving to Spain but here are ten off the top of my head, things that are immutable and unchanging in most cases. First the video then the reasons explained in the video in more detail.

1) Weather

Goes without saying of course. Summer is not just three hot days and a thunderstorm and that is it. Seven or eight months sitting out on your terrace or at a street bar watching the World go by sound attractive to me.

2) Tapas

Again goes without saying, little bits of food accompanying the drinks. Best places to get Tapas include Salamanca and Granada

3) Lifestyle

The outside lifestyle is helped by the weather but Spain is an extremely sociable country and that hasn’t changed over the years. Pavement cafes and bustling restaurants form a part of the culture.

4) Friendliness (Interrupted by Ambulance on Video)

The Spanish are very friendly compared with many other nations. Innate curiosity is probably the reason but the sociable aspect of the country means that if you make an effort with the language then you have friends for life

5) Sports

Surprised? The sporting facilities in Spain are second to none and this probably explains why in most sports now Spain ranks very highly in World terms. Soccer, cycling, athletics, tennis, hockey, handball and basketball are just some of the sports Spain excels in. The reason is simple, an outdoor lifestyle, investment and facilities with easy access. (I saw a few days ago that one of the best up and coming UK tennis players is Toby Farquharson or something like that. Might I suggest he hasn’t got or won’t have the necessary hunger to be the best in the World!)

6) Variety

Spain is a land of varieties from the green, rainy north through the Meseta where apparently the rain stays, to the Costas, to the beautiful architecture of the old towns to the colour of Andalucia to the harsh climate of Extremadura and with many others in between including the islands you can find the most beautiful Moorish palaces, Roman amphitheatres and stunning modern architecture.

7) Food

The best restaurant in the World, El Bulli, is in Girona and 17 Spanish restaurants are on the best 100 list in the World, although I cannot remember where that was published a few weeks ago. You won’t get a table at El Bulli but there are many other places for stunning gastronomy and each region has its own specialities. Best food for me is in Asturias, a combination of shellfish and stews that makes your mouth water just thinking about them.

8) Drinks

Calimocho during the Bull Running in Pamplona, cider in Asturias, Agua de Valencia here in Valencia are just some of the examples that come to mind before even thinking of the wine and Cava production

9) Public Transport

Cheap and reliable in the big cities, public transport also links city to city regularly and at a great price. The best high speed train service bar none and getting more and more prevalñent around the whole of the country as more cities get connected up to the routes. If you travel by high speed train then make sure you get a first class seat as food and drink, films and papers are brought to you all for free and your seat is always guaranteed.

10) Property

I am an estate agent so declare my interest but this is now more true than it has been for years. prices have fallen to very affordable levels, bargains abound and interest rates are low. If you come to live i Spain with a plan to get by and a business then you have a good chance of not crashing and burning. The types of property available vry from region to region but keeping away from the overdeveloped Costas can get you great bargains and if you want sun, sea and sand then prices are better than ever.

So there you go, watch the video, and decide for yourself whether all of this is true. Spain truly is a magical place to live if you choose the right way to live here and the best place for you. Do your homework, get as much information as you can and you will not have any regrets.

Added the comments from @peppersantblai (Twitter handle) below as they are very enlightening too.
